Salt Street Project
The streets in New York City are made safe in winter by the spreading of street salt by the NYC Dept. of Sanitation. After a snow the City’s sanitation trucks scour the five boroughs spreading street salt that melts the snow and helps keep the traffic moving.
The salt used for this purpose is mined all over the world and delivered to New York City via ships.
For this series of photographs I travelled to Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland where they mine the salt and witnessed its’ delivery to the Atlantic Salt Company in Staten Island, New York.
